Core Beliefs

The Scriptures:

We believe that every word of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, as originally written, were inspired by God. We believe that God has supernaturally preserved His word through the centuries and that the Scriptures are our infallible and authoritative rule for faith and practice.

Supporting Scripture: 2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Luke 1:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 1:1-3; Psalm 119:89

God:

We believe in the one true God, who is an intelligent, sovereign, spiritual and personal Being. He is perfect, infinite and eternal in His being, holiness, love, wisdom, and power. He is absolutely separate from and above the world as its creator, yet everywhere present in the world as the Upholder of all things. He is revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit; three distinct persons but without division of nature, essence or being, and each having a distinct ministry in God’s relation to His creation and people.

Jesus Christ:

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the eternal Word and only begotten Son. Without change in His divinity He became man by miracle of the virgin birth. As man, Jesus was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. By being the perfect Lamb of God He gave Himself willingly to death upon the cross, bearing there the sin of the world and suffering its full penalty of divine wrath in our place. He arose from the grave in a glorified body. He has ascended to Heaven, there to appear before the face of God as our ever present Advocate and Intercessor.

Holy Spirit:

We believe in the Holy Spirit who is the divine agent in revelation and redemption. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He regenerates, indwells, baptizes into the Body of Christ and seals all who become children of God through Christ. He further empowers, teaches, fills, sanctifies and progressively transforms all believers into the image of Christ. Further, He gives spiritual gifts to believers for the purpose of serving God through the edification of the believers.

Men and women:

We believe that all people are by nature and choice sinful and lost. We believe that man was the direct creation of God, made in His image and likeness; that by disobedience to the revealed will of God, man became a sinful creature, the father of a fallen race, thus being separated from the life and family of God. Humanity is under the righteous judgment and wrath of God and has within himself no possible means of salvation.

Salvation:

We believe in salvation by grace through faith. Salvation is the free gift of God, not earned nor secured in any way by any virtue or work of man. Salvation is received by faith which is the completed act of repentance and belief that in order to be saved the sinner must be born again by placing his faith in the completed work of Jesus Christ on the cross. This saving faith is given to ‘whosoever will’ by the Holy Spirit upon the hearing of the word of God. This gift of salvation secures for every believer redemption for and from his sin, a present possession of eternal life, a perfect positional sanctification, sonship in the family of God, deliverance and security from all condemnation and every spiritual resource needed to live a godly life. We believe that one’s salvation is eternally secure.

Christian life:

We believe that every believer, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, should walk in Christian love, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit which includes, but is not limited to, honesty, forgiveness, integrity, loving kindness, meekness and helpfulness. We believe that true fellowship can only be maintained when all believers in the local church are spiritually open, totally honest before God and have all roots of bitterness toward God and man removed.

Satan:

We believe in the existence of the devil, who originally was created a holy and perfect being but through pride and wicked ambition rebelled against God. He is the great adversary of God and His people. He is the leader of all other evil angels, principalities and powers. He was judged and defeated at the cross of Christ and therefore his final doom is certain. We are able to resist him and overcome him only in the armour of God, by the blood of Jesus, by the word of our testimony and by not loving our lives unto death.

Church:

We believe that the church of Jesus Christ was inaugurated by the Lord Jesus Christ and is a New Testament body. This is revealed in two ways: the local, visible church and the church ‘which is His body’. We believe that the local church is God’s visible organization for the carrying out of His purpose on earth and is a New Testament picture of the body of Christ. We believe that as one is placed into the body of Christ at salvation by the baptism of the Holy Spirit so also one is visibly placed into the local church by the symbolic ordinance of baptism in water.

Priesthood of believers:

We believe in the priesthood of all believers; that Christ is our great high priest and through him every born again person has direct access into God’s presence without the need of a human priest. The believer has the authority and personal responsibility to personally study the Scriptures, as guided by the Holy Spirit.

Supporting Scripture: John 14:6; Hebrews 4:16; 2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 2:1,5,9

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and unsaved; that those who through faith are justified and will spend eternity in full enjoyment of God’s presence. Those people who through unbelief refuse to accept God’s offer of mercy will spend eternity in everlasting punishment.

Supporting Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-58; 2 Corinthians 5:8-10; Revelation 20:11-15; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10; Luke 16:19-31

Family:

We believe in the scriptural concept of the family made up of one man and one woman joined together in marriage; any other sexual involvement is a perversion to God's design and contrary to God's law and the church will reprove such sins; that the union of marriage between one  man and one woman is sacred; that God blesses the union with the inheritance of children, who become the responsibility of the parents as delegated to them by God; that the parents are responsible and have the divine right to train their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, including, but not limited to, proper discipline and Christian education; that God hates divorce, although, like all sins will forgive and use a person regardless of their past.

Supporting Scripture: Genesis 2:24; Proverbs 18:22; Malachi 2:13-16; Matthew 5:31-32; Mark 6:17-18; Luke 16:18; Romans 7:1-3; 1 Corinthians 7:1-39; 1 Corinthians 9:5; 1 Timothy 5:14; Hebrews 13:4

The believer's reward:

We believe that all Christians will stand before God and be individually judged. This will occur at the Bema Seat of Christ. This judgment is not that which occurs for the unbeliever at what is known as the Great White Throne judgment. The judgment at the Bema Seat is not one for condemnation and does not result in the loss of a believer's salvation. Rather, this judgment will be an assessment of one's life for the purposes of receiving rewards from our Saviour. Here our faithful service, or not, will be adjuticated by Jesus Christ. As such, not all believers will receive the same reward; there will be some who suffer loss. Scripture frequently warns the believer about losing rewards should they walk in the flesh and not by the Spirit. As believers we should desire to appear without shame at our Lord's coming and to receive a full reward. By submitting our lives to Christ's will, and not to our own selfish agendas, we can hear 'Well done.'
